Castles were typically built in the middle of a huge land. The main reason why castles are usually built on top of the hill as a type of defense for other people who may want to take over the castle. It will be harder for horses and the soldiers to try going to the castle.
Aside from castles being built on top of the hill, there are also some that are located near the river so that it will naturally be surrounded by water. The castle will have a moat so that it will be easier for those who will be allowed to enter through the bridge. Those who will not be allowed to enter may try to brace the water, but some reports say that the water may come with piranhas or alligators.
