Yes, social media is making us antisocial!
Nowadays, many of us spend most of our time on social media watching videos, playing games, viewing pictures and chatting. This has transformed the way we interact and meet people.
Social media is making us lose interaction with people in real life. This also affects our relationship with people that are even close to us.
Most of us would rather chat on Whatsapp, Facebook and so on than have real-life conversations with people.
We spend time of social media platforms with hundreds to thousands of friends that we do not know and friends we have never seen while we do not relate well with people that we see and those around us.
Social media has elements of good and bad that come with it. On the one hand, it may help you to feel connected with your peers or people you haven't seen in a while.
On the other hand, it almost wholly isolates the user by keeping them home glued to the computer, as opposed to going out and meeting people face to face. Facebook has replaced the need for people to get together and spend quality time with each other.
Social messaging also diminishes the importance of real conversation or dialogue, and instead, people are sending one another quick text messages and smiley faces. However, it connects you with people with whom you wouldn't otherwise keep in contact. So many people can find old high school and college buddies on Facebook.
