Why do people celebrate Veterans Day?

People celebrate Veterans Day as a way of commemorating with all US veterans for their selfless service to the United States of America. Veterans Day should not be confused with Memorial Day because Veterans Day is meant to celebrate the sacrifice of both the dead and the living veterans in the country. Veterans Day actually started as Armistice Day as a holiday set aside to honor those who lost their lives during World War I and also to celebrate the end of the war.

As a result of this, November 11 was chosen for the celebration of Armistice Day after it was passed into law. Armistice Day was originally meant to celebrate all the US veterans who participated in World War I. However, in 1954, the US Congress decided to change Armistice Day to Veterans Day to allow Americans to celebrate all US veterans who fought for the country including both the living and the dead ones.
