If I say Thanksgiving is a religious holiday, I am not really far from the truth because the story behind Thanksgiving celebration has religious roots. Different sources revealed that the Thanksgiving celebration started in commemoration of the various encounters of some pilgrims who fled England. As a result, severe persecution they suffered. Their divine escape and how they were treated when they got intercepted by some Indians were actually parts of the reasons why the Thanksgiving celebration started in the past.
However, the Thanksgiving celebration has greatly changed from being a religious celebration to a secular one in most cities. As a result of this, people don't even think about the religious aspect of it; they are only interested in the enjoyment that it brings. Also, Thanksgiving, in some countries, has different types of connotations, and that's why we cannot totally say Thanksgiving is a religious holiday.
No. Thanksgiving is not a religious holiday. It is an annual national holiday in the United States, Canada, and across other parts of North America. Thanksgiving is celebrated on the 4th Thursday in the United States.
Although Thanksgiving has its roots in the Judeo-Christian tradition in the United States over time, t became secular activities were family and friends gather to spend merry and spend quality time together.
History has it that the first Thanksgiving celebration was celebrated in Virginia on December 4, 1619. The day was dedicated as a day of Thanksgiving to God Almighty.
There are some people who may wonder if Thanksgiving is actually a religious holiday, but actually, this is more of a secular holiday right now. They say that there are some people who go to church on Thanksgiving simply to give thanks to their God for what they have received, but this is not considered to be a church holiday.
Rather, this is a type of holiday that is being celebrated in America. Some also say that Thanksgiving can be considered to be more of a cultural holiday mainly because the first Thanksgiving occurred when the Pilgrims had their first harvest in the year 1621.
The main goal of Thanksgiving now is to give thanks to all of the blessings that people have received throughout the year.
Thanksgiving is indeed a religious holiday, especially when you try to look back at the various events that led to the celebration. This celebration started over 400 years after the series of unfortunate events that were experienced by the pilgrims who traveled across the Atlantic in a bid to get a place that would be suitable for their religious practices; their various encounters are what led to Thanksgiving celebration.
There is no actual date for this celebration, and it is celebrated in different places of the world. In some places, it is celebrated on the second Monday of October every year and the last Thursday of November in some places.
The reason for this celebration differs in some places. Some celebrate it to appreciate God for His blessings towards them over the last year. However, the celebration has turned into a secular one. People have actually lost the religious reasons behind it.
