Affliction started off as a fashion line apparel company, and it sponsored UFC before branching as a mixed martial art promotion company. This created competition with UFC in the mixed martial art market.

UFC uses a cage structure while Affliction used an actual ring as the ring design.

Affliction enlisted help from Donald Trump to be a significant shareholder of the company for the agenda of obtaining more funds. Competing with UFC, Affliction snatched up their best fighters. The ring designed by UFC is a popular cage structure, while the newer Affliction ring is an actual ring, not a stage.
