Zen originated from China where it is referred to as Chan Buddhism. It is a branch of Mahayana Buddhism. Zen Buddhism found it’s way to Japan where it was termed Zen.
Zen focuses on meditation, self control and mindfulness. Zen is also highly influenced by Taoist.
