There are two types of TV screens in our world today. The widescreen and the fullscreen TV
Widescreen uses an aspect ratio of 16:9. This aspect ratio preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio. This is the aspect ratio mostly used in movies and TV shows. No part of the picture is lost.
Many people prefer widescreen to fullscreen, as this gives a full view of what they are watching.
If you are watching a movie and you see black bars on your TV, it’s because the movie was filmed at 16:9 and you are watching on a TV that has a 4:3 ratio.
The full screen uses an aspect ratio of 4:3. In full-screen view, the picture fills up the entire screen, and important information on the sides is cut off.
Watching your movies on widescreen TV will help eliminate the bars you see at the top and bottom of your screen.
