Yom Kippur is also known as the period of atonement. It is one of the most important days in the Jewish calendar. For this year, Yom Kippur will be observed on October 8, and it will end on October 9. It is a spiritual exercise which lasts for 25 hours. Yom Kippur will start before sunset on October 8, and it will end after nightfall on October 9. Yom Kippur is regarded as the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.

Yom Kippur is usually observed on the tenth day after Rosh Hashanah. It is time to afflict your soul by avoiding some things. Yom Kippur is being observed so that people can come into repentance and forsake their evil ways. In the Jewish tradition, it is believed that Yom Kippur is the day God will judge people based on their past mistakes. In order to avoid God's judgment, people observe Yom Kippur so that God can be kind to them. You don't eat on Yom Kippur; you are expected to spend the whole day fasting and praying to God.
