Why does Oktoberfest start from September?

The fact that one can easily come to the understanding of the word 'Oktoberfest' as something that was coined from 'October and festival' does not mean the festival is celebrated in October. Oktoberfest is the longest public festival in Germany. The reason why the larger part of it is celebrated in September is because of the warm weather. Oktoberfest celebration starts in mid or late September and ends on the first Sunday of October. Usually, Oktoberfest is celebrated for a total period of sixteen to eighteen days.

The festival starts in September so that visitors won't be disturbed when the weather becomes a little bit cold in October. Oktoberfest is a very important festival in Bavarian culture. It is the most popular and the biggest beer festival. The festival is not only celebrated in Germany but in different countries of the world. For example, it is celebrated in Brazil, Canada, the US, etc.

The central portion of Oktoberfest takes place in September, while the entire festival runs from sixteen to eighteen days, depending on the year. The event began in Munich, Germany, on October 12th, 1810, and ended on October 17th, with a horse race. It was a celebration of the union between Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese.

The public party was a success, and from then on, it has been continued ever since. The community concurred that because the September nights were warmer, the festival should mostly be held during this time. By moving the festivities up, it allowed for better weather conditions and drew in bigger crowds.
