Yes, Diwali, also known as Dipawali, is a national festival in India. In fact, it is one of the biggest festivals in India. Diwali is celebrated over a period of four to five days. It is celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, and even Buddhists. The festival is more of a cultural and seasonal festival than a religious festival. The festival symbolizes the victory of the inner light that protects homes from spiritual darkness.
The festival got its name from two words. “avail” and “deepa.” Avail stands for the clay lamps and Deepa, which stands for light. During Diwali, homes, shops, and offices are illuminated with light. The third day of the festival is the climax of the celebration, as this coincides with the darkest night of the month of Kartika, which is Hindu’s lunisolar month.
