Which states celebrate Columbus Day?

Columbus Day is a holiday that celebrates the time when Christopher Columbus has discovered America. There are various states in the US that celebrate this holiday such as San Francisco and Virginia. Most states in America do not consider this is as a public holiday.

Rather, they remember this holiday as a “day of observance.” This holiday used to be very popular in the past but it started to decline when people realized that this would mean disregarding the Native Americans and how America used to be before Christopher Columbus discovered it. There are also some states that celebrate a different holiday from Columbus Day. They call it Indigenous People’s Day.

Columbus Day is celebrated in many parts of the United States, but the recognition of the holiday seems to be reducing day after day. Some countries that celebrate Columbus Day include Mexico, Peru, Spain, Italy, Uruguay, and Latin Americans. Though each country celebrates the day in different forms and probably with different names for the day. A particular society in New York named Tammany society and the Massachusetts historical society present in Boston are active celebrators of the day.

San Francisco happens to be the oldest place where Christopher Columbus's Day is celebrated. They put on an event to celebrate the day as started in 1868 by Nicola Larco. Considering the US Virgin Islands, the United States territory of Puerto Rico, Columbus Day happens to legally accepted as a big holiday and usually celebrated with the Puerto Rico friendship day. Virginia is also another active celebrator of the Columbus Day.
