Universe and Cosmos are not the same and many of us do not the difference. The universe is the sum of everything that exists in the cosmos (includes the galaxies, the planets, light, and stars), including time, matter and space itself. It also includes the law that governs the cosmos. The word “universe” originated from the Latin unus verterem which means “that which rotates as one”. Many others believe it was also formed from the Latin word “Univerus” which means “a while or entire.
The word “Cosmos” was coined by Pythagoras and it is used to describe the existence of celestial bodies. It was coined from the Greek word “Kosmos”. Cosmos refers to an orderly and harmonious whole. It includes the planets, the galaxies, light, and stars. The study of cosmos and the understanding of its existence is known as cosmology. It is a branch of metaphysics that deals with the study of the orderly and harmonious nature of things, their origin, and they fit into natural law.
