Canon HV20 and Canon HV30 are two different versions of digital cameras made by Canon. Both camera versions belong to the XIVIA line. HV30 is the improved version of HV20. Along with the features of HV 20, HV30 has an additional 30p shooting mode added to the regular 24p and 60i present on the HV20. This was primarily done for the purpose of online video production.
The 30p feature makes it easier to convert videos down to 15fps, which is the normal bandwidth consideration for online videos. On the HV30, the hot shoe cover has been tethered to the body of the camera. This is unlike the HV20, which is unthreatened and can be easily misplaced. The HV30 also has a solarizing resistant LCD screen. This prevents it from being easily soaked out under direct sunlight. This new feature is not present on the HV20. HV30 also has a full zoom toggle switch, which is not present on the HV20.
