Growing up, I was never allowed to dress up for Halloween. This is because my parents were very strict and saw Halloween as a sin. With that being said, as an adult, I love the time of year because it gives me a chance to relive my childhood.
Thus far, my favorite Halloween costume has been Harley Quinn. My now husband dressed up as the Joker, and I was his partner in crime. I painted both his and my face with white face paint and black eyes. I also spray painted his hair green while I wore the pigtails.
When I was very young, I wanted to be just like She-Ra Princess of Power. She-Ra is a fictitious character in the 1985 Filmation cartoon of the same name. In the series, She-Ra was intended to represent the female version of He-Man. Her real name was Princess Adora. She was actually He-Man's long-lost twin sister. She-Ra was nicknamed "the most powerful woman in the universe."
This appealed to me because I wanted to be strong and guard against the forces of evil, even from an early age. My She-Ra Halloween costume was so cool because I got to have a giant cardboard sword. I also had a very special bright red cape. I thought I was so tough. I was very happy that Halloween.
I am not the type of person who makes a lot of effort to dress up for Halloween, but I remember that there was a time that I dressed up as a vintage doll. I had a lot of fun trying to look for the right items to wear. It was a success because everyone complimented me on what I was wearing. The funny thing is that the skirt that I used for it was actually a skirt that I had to wear for a costume before backing in high school.
I used the skirt more than ten years later, and it worked with the rest of the items that I used to make me look like I was wearing the clothes of a doll. I had a bit of a hard time looking for shoes, but for that particular Halloween costume, I made sure that I would place a lot of effort on it.
