There are some devotees of the festival and the goddess Durga who will only eat fruit and will drink milk for the whole duration of the festival which will last for nine days. People are not supposed to consume anything related to wheat and rice. There are some alternatives that are available but if you find this confusing, just avoid these products.
You should also refrain from using table salt when you are following the fasting rules of the festival. Those who are fasting can always consume dairy products such as milk and cheese. You should also refrain from using seed-based oils when you are cooking different food products. Desi ghee can be used for this purpose instead.
