The Navaratri is meant to start on September 29, 2019, and it will end on October 8. 2019. Each day that the Navaratri is celebrated has different meanings. For example, for day 1 of the festival, it is Shailaputri. There are different reasons why this is celebrated in the various subcontinents of India. Those who are from the northeastern and eastern states of India celebrate this because they want to commemorate the time when the goddess Durga was able to emerge victorious from the buffalo demon.
In the process, the goddess was able to restore Dharma. The characters are a bit different in the northern and western states wherein they believe that it is Rama who was victorious over Ravana. In the southern area, it is Saraswati who was able to fight the demon. Basically, this festival signifies the power of good over evil.
