Her father, Richard Williams home-schooled Williams, and when Serena was nine years old, the family relocated to West Palm Beach, Florida where Serena could go to the tennis academy of Rick Macci. Her father took Serena and Venus out of the academy so that they could concentrate more on their schoolwork.
In 1999, Williams attended The Arts Institute of Fort Lauderdale to learn fashion design. Williams also attended The University of Massachusetts, Amherst. With her education from the Art Institute, she launched her fashion line called Aneres in 2004. Her name is also on handbags, clothing, and jewelry.
