Serena did begin to play in the 2019 Miami Open; however, she withdrew from the due to a left knee injury. She played at the Hard Rock Stadium this year, and she thanked the Miami open for the event. Williams was coming off a triumphant three-set victory over Rebecca Peterson, and she was getting ready to face off with Qiang Wang in the fourth round.
This withdrawal denotes the second consecutive tournament in which Williams has been obliged to withdraw. At the Indian Wells Open in early March, Williams claimed a victory over tennis giant, Victoria Azarenka prior to retiring from her third-round match against Garbine Muguruza. Williams expressed that she would like to return next year.
