Both the Williams sisters, Venus and Serena, were coached in tennis from an early age by their parents, Richard Williams and Oracene Price. Serena's mother is regarded as being one of the most impeccable tennis players of all time. She was married to Richard Williams, whom she divorced in 2002.
The Williams family moved to Florida so that Venus and Serena could be coached for free by Rick Macci. Price's coaching has been invaluable to her two daughters, who have learned a lot from her guidance. Venus and Serena's "poise under pressure" is credited to self-belief which has been instilled in them by their mother.
Richard Williams took lessons from a man known as "Old Whiskey," and he decided that his daughters would be tennis players, as well. He wrote up a lengthy plan for them to follow, and he began giving Venus and Serena tennis lessons when they were three years of age.
