Is One Direction officially over as a boy band?

I really don't think so; One Direction only announced their decision to go for hiatus and not that the band has been completely dissolved. Although there are speculations that the band might detract from their decision and come back as one band, they used to be, the decision of Zayn Malik, a member of the group, to leave the band might have also contributed to the decision of the remaining four to go for hiatus. Before they officially announced their hiatus, they have been able to release about five albums between 2011 and 2015.

They were able to get a lot of awards through those songs. However, since their separation, each of them have been pursuing their music career separately. And as much as people are anticipating for their possible comeback, the various speculations about their possible reunion as a boyband should be regarded as a rumor since their decision is only left to them.
