It is no longer news that Twitch cannot be accessed again in China. However, the reason as to why the Chinese authorities decided to stop the video streaming platform is yet to be fully ascertained. However, there are speculations that Twitch was blocked because of the huge popularity it was getting particularly from China. Although Twitch is not as popular as other domestic platforms in China, the sudden rise in the number of users from China became the reason why it was banned.
The logic behind the ban is easy to understand. Chinese authorities opined that they might not be able to have so much control on Twitch like other domestic platforms like Douyu and Huya since Twitch is not a Chinese owned online platform. However, it does not seem like this decision has really affected Twitch, a huge number of users are joining the platform on a monthly basis.
