The truth is passive smoking can be prevented. Even the knowledge of its harmful effects on our healthy living will make us go for every measure to prevent it. We shouldn't think heart diseases are gotten only by smokers, even as a passive smoker you can get them. The way to prevent being a passive smoker is to try as much as possible to abstain from areas where you are more likely to inhale tobacco smoke.
Don't think you are not affected just because you are not sitting close to a smoker. Smoke stays a little bit longer in the air, which means you can still be inhaling the smoke from someone's cigarette, even when the person had left an hour ago. Don't allow people to smoke in your house, car, workplace, etc. Also, try as much as possible to move away from places that will make you vulnerable to smoke from tobacco products.
