The Rugby World Cup first started on May 22, 1987. The first-ever World Cup was hosted by New Zealand and Australia and they really wanted to make sure that the tournament will be approved. The reason why it was started is that a lot of people are interested in Rugby and there have already been numerous attempts to make the World Cup happen even before the year that the Rugby World Cup was officially started.
There were problems that occurred beforehand. One of which was the time when the International Rugby Board said that it did not want to be associated with anything that resembles a World Cup. With the perseverance of people who are passionate about Rugby, the Rugby World Cup officially started.
