Some people may assume that all types of law are the same, but actually, there are differences between substantive and procedural law. Procedural law will provide details about the process that the case will go through to decide what the next steps are going to be. This will also determine if the case should be heard in court or not.

This means that people are looking for the substance of the case and how it can affect different people who are connected to the case. Procedural law refers to the process that a case may go through. This is the process wherein people will decide if the case would need to be tried on the court or not. Substantive law refers to the process by which the different clues that are related to the case will be handled. This will also refer to the possible charge that a person may get depending on the circumstances surrounding the case.

They are both being handled by the Supreme Court but it is evident that they refer to different things. It is important for people to know the difference between the two to lessen the possible confusion they may feel when asked about these concepts.

For substantive law, the different statutory laws will be administered by the legislature. The procedural law will govern how the process of the case should be followed while for substantive law; it will focus on how people should behave.
