Oatmeal is a kind of porridge, and porridge, when prepared with oat, is made from cracked but whole oats. Oats are more palatable than porridge because the heating makes the oats more pleasurable.
Porridge can contain rice, oats peas meal, barley, cornmeal, semolina, or wheat. Oats, on the other hand, are rolled or steel-cut. Porridge is prepared using oatmeal, or the same oatmeal may be baked and made into cookies. Oatmeal is created from oats and then warmed up with milk, cream, or water and served as breakfast, and we call it porridge.
