Dating and seeing someone might seem like, as the same actions are being taken but with different intentions. One major thing that differentiates between these two terms is the intention. The intention of someone just going to see someone is different from the intention of someone going on a date. Someone dating another person, or going on a date with another person is also going to see the fellow, but the person is going to see someone is not necessarily dating the person he or she is seeing.

There are levels of human relationships. Dating is a more advanced level of relationship than seeing someone. Dating can lead to a more serious relationship and fidelity, but seeing someone does not really lead to an advanced level of relationship. You can see your family members such as your mum, dad, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, and cousin; but it is abnormal to date any of one's relatives.

Most of the time, seeing someone and dating them is the same thing; however, if you are looking for technicalities, seeing someone is more casual and laid back, which generally means going out on casual dates in public places such as restaurants and the movies.

On the other hand, dating may be a step above seeing someone, where the level of commitment becomes more intense. It may even become more romantic or intimate. However, when you are “seeing someone,” it is generally inferred that you also see other people.

As teenagers, people use all sorts of different terms to mean being in a relationship with another person. Some teens and adults say that they are dating someone, whereas others are saying that they are seeing someone. Most of the time, these subtle differences in the terms evolve through a way of a different generation using a different term to being in a relationship with another.

They use a different term than their parents, and they add a subtle change to the meaning than what their parents meant using their own term. The key difference is that dating means that you are going out with a lot of different people whereas seeing someone is more intimate and with just one person.
