There are a lot of people who may become confused with laid, lay, and so much more. You need to know when these terms will be used so that you can use the right terms when needed. Lay and laid are known to be to put something down. One of the differences in their tense. Laid is already in the past tense which means that something has already been put down.

When you say lay, this means that the item or the object is still being put down. Some people would need to make more effort to understand everything so that they can use the right term to describe what they want to say.

In the English language, most people speak and write in the present or past tense. This means that the verbs that they use in their sentences are in the past or present tense. However, usually, someone keeps the same verb tense throughout their conversation, which means that they don’t change verb tenses in the middle of a conversation.

One verb is laid. It is in the present tense. You may say something like, “you lay your baby in his crib.” This means that right now, you put the baby in the crib. Laid is the verb that has the same meaning, but it is in the past tense. This means that the baby was put down in the crib in the past.
