You arrive at a party, and you ring the doorbell. The host opens the door and greets you. He may take your coat and offer you something to drink. Then he will escort you to the room where the other guests are mingling about. Another place where you would see a host would be at a restaurant. When you walk in the door, the host will seat you at a table and hand you the menus.
A hostess will do the same thing in either the house or the restaurant. However, a host is a man, and a hostess is a woman. Sometimes, some people will call the woman a host just because they don’t want to make it difficult, especially if she is the only one hosting.
The only difference between the two is the gender of the person who has organized the party and would make sure that the guests at a party are having fun. Over the past years, people have changed the way that they call a person who has organized the party.
They have started calling the person a “host” regardless of what the person’s gender is. The term hosts can also be considered to be general right now. Some may also use it to describe the program or the company that has organized the event for the people to enjoy. Some women do not mind being called a host but some men may take offense when they are called a hostess.
