SMTP is known to be Simple Mail Transfer Agent. This is a transfer agent. POP means Post office Protocol. This is a message access agent. The main difference between the two is that SMTP is going to send the message while the POP is going to receive the agent.
The SMTP can be used from one sender to another while the POP can be used from one receiver to another. The SMTP is used to send mail from the sender computer to the receiver mail servers. POP3 will be used in order to get and organize the mail that you will get from the receiver’s mail server.
There are two standards used for most new e-mails. SMTP is the acronym for simple mail transfer protocol, and POP stands for Post Office Protocol. POP is a protocol for the storage of e-mail, whereas SMTP is a protocol for sending and receiving.
SMTP is like a letter carrier or mailman where the person can deliver or pick-up mail for transfer to another location. POP can be compared to a mailbox or a post office box. It is the location in which the mail is delivered and where it resides until the recipient is ready to read it. SMTP is the standard by which mail is transferred on the internet.
