The pig heart is not the same as the human heart. The significant difference is that pigs have a large vessel to the rear of the heart from which blood from the heart and the left chest wall flows. In the human heart, there is a vessel called the azygous vein, which aids the left cardinal vein in discharging blood from the heart. Pigs do not have an azygous vein, and their cardinal vein is huge, and it drains blood from the heart and from the chest itself. Pig hearts also differ from the human heart in shape, texture, and angle of the blood vessels.
Human hearts have a rectangular profile, while the pig's hearts have more of a rounded "heart" shape. Pig heart muscle is coarser. Pigs also have two orifices in their left atrium, and the human heart does not. However, much like in the human heart, the pig's heart is the same size for an individual of the same weight.
