"Hello" is a term which is used to greet someone anywhere or to initiate a conversation over the phone call. It is basically a form of greeting/salutation in English. However, there are various usages of hello.

  • Hello is also used to express curiosity, for example: "Hello, Who is there?".
  • It is used to sarcasm or anger too. For example: "Oh Hello, How dare you to say this?"
  • To greet someone e.g. "Hello, Good Morning!"

The word "Hello" has its origin back in 1827, if we go by the Oxford dictionary. It is extensively used as one of the most common conversation starters around the globe, along with "Hi" and "What's up?" over the phone or in person. The word
Different cultures have translated it into their language like it's"Hola" in Spanish, "Bonjour,"in French, and "Konichiwa" in Japenese. Everyone uses it atleast two to three times a day as a greeting mostly, but back then people used this word to attract attention from folks or to surprise someone like "Hello, What do we have here?"

On the other hand, "Ahoy,"(synonym of hello) at that time was there for a longer span but personalities like Thomas Eddison urged people to use "Hello" as a requisite.

Hello is a word in the English language. It is used as a greeting. Thomas Edison is who we have to thank for the everyday use of the word today. His invention of the telephone made it possible. The phone surprised him when it rang, and he is cited as saying "Hullo."

The first use of this word in writing dates back to 1826. It was used in the publication, Norwich Courier. Early versions of the word had it spelled differently, with the spelling Halloo or Halo. An example of this word in a sentence is "Hello! I hope you have a great day".
