When we are talking about eructation and fluctus (or flatulence), they both refer to gases that are expelled from the body. Eructation is the usual sound or gas released from the mouth mostly after eating. This occurs when the gastric cavity is full of food, and the esophagus passage to the stomach is relaxed, then the gas enclosed in-between is released. On the other hand, fluctus, which can be released voluntarily or involuntarily, is the gas expelled from the distal portion of the intestines.
Eructation and fluctus actually occur due to aerophagia. Aerophagia occurs when there is an intake of excess air, probably through chewing of gum, intake of alcohol, smoking, talking with dry mouth, sleeping with mouth opened, talking while eating and similar occurrences like that. Excessive eructation and fluctus should actually be prevented, and it's not really best done by taking medications, but by proper diet modification.
