One of the most important natural resources that are present in the world is crude oil or petroleum. This raw material can be processed through a process called fractional distillation to obtain some useful materials like kerosene, paraffin wax, Vaseline, bitumen, and which petrol and diesel are also among. Petrol and diesel are two important fuels in the everyday activities of men. Petrol is used in internal combustion engines or Otto engines of road motor vehicles.

This combustion process works like this: when the engine is ignited, there is a mixture of the fuel with air in the piston and compression also takes place. Thus an explosion occurs due to the electrical spark and some mechanical means. The combustion engine of the diesel engine is different from that of a petrol engine. In the diesel engine, when the engine is ignited, it does not need a spark to cause combustion. Petrol has a boiling range of 60-200 °C and density of 0.73g/cm³, while diesel has a boiling range of 180-360 °C and a density of 0.84 g/cm³.
