If you have ever tried to learn another language, you will probably need to learn the meaning and ways of conjugating the verb “to be” because that is such a popular verb that is used when speaking, writing and reading.
However, in Italian, two words mean “to be.” They are essere and stare. They are handled differently. To speak Italian fluently, you will need to know when to use essere and stare. Essere means to be or exist and stare means to stay or to be.
Stare is used in sentences about precise locations and idioms. Essere is used in general locations, dates, times, qualities, identities, origins, religions, and physical characteristics, to name a few.
