URI and URL are the acronyms for Uniform Resources Identifier and Uniform Resources Locator. Both URL and URI are related in some ways but there are still differences between them. URI, as the name implies, means something that identifies difference resources or materials, while URL, is used as identifiers which show the location of a resource.
For example, during web development, a programmer can decide to have many URI so that there would be easy Identification of various resources to be used, and he also needs to have a good knowledge about the location of the resources. So, he needs URI for different resources to point him to different locations of the resources using URL. So the difference here is that, URL is just the locator of the resources, while URI can be the identifier of the resources and also the locator. URI can be divided into URL and URN (Uniform Resources Name)
