Tisha B'Av means the ninth day in the month of Av, and is regarded as the saddest day on the Jewish calendar. The ninth day of the month of Av is regarded as the saddest day because a lot of tragedies were witnessed on that day. The day is set aside for the remembrance of the major calamities that befell the Jewish people. The first incidence was when Moses sent twelve Israelites to spy on the land of Canaan, but out of the twelve people he sent only two people came back with positive reports, while the remaining ten gave terrifying reports.
This made the Israelites to become fearful as this might prevent them from entering the promised land.
