The celebration of friendship day started after the United States congress deliberated on the need to have a special day for people to celebrate their friends in 1935. And in 1958, the World Friendship Crusade declared Friendship day to be celebrated on the first Sunday of August every year. Ever since this time, a lot of people have been observing the day. Although, the celebration of friendship day started in the United States but friendship day is now being celebrated virtually in all countries of the world.

The became possible because of the advent of social media where you easily get things trended to all the nooks and crannies of the world. People celebrate their friends by sending friendship day cards to their friends. Some people celebrate friendship day by taking their friends out on a date so as to have nice time with them. In fact, in some countries the celebration goes beyond sending of gifts, countries like India celebrate friendship day by declaring holiday so that people can celebrate themselves.

There are only a few countries that celebrate Friendship Day as a recognized holiday. Even though they may be recognized, that doesn’t mean that people get off of work or school usually because Friendship Day is not a national or federal holiday. Instead, it is merely a recognized day that people like to celebrate time with friends.

The countries that celebrate Friendship Day are Argentina, Brazil, Bangladesh, Finland, Estonia, India, Paraguay, Peru, United States, and the United Arab Emirates. The other countries, including England, France, Sweden, Canada, Chile, Netherlands, and Australia, are just a few countries that do not celebrate Friendship Day. Other countries that do not celebrate Friendship Day seem to be many countries in Africa and a few in Europe.
