People started celebrating friendship day after the United States congress deliberated on the need to have a special day for people to celebrate their friends. This was done by the United States congress in 1935 and after which it was officially declared that friendship day would be observed on the first Sunday of August every year.

This idea has been taken up by a lot of people to celebrate their friends. The good thing is as you are celebrating your friends, others are also celebrating you. Being in a relationship with people is considered to be something good, at least you have someone to talk to, someone to take advice from and someone to share your sorrow with.
