Plaids can be said to have originated from Scotland many years ago. To be specific, plaid was first made and used in the 16th century. Plaids can be made with different colors but the frequent colors for plaids are black and red. Plaid is so popular today that you see people making various designs out of it. Flannel, on the other hand is a soft cloth material which is made from wool, and which can as well be combined with cotton or synthetic fibers.

Flannels are mostly used in Wales probably because the material was first produced in the country in the 17th century. Flannel together with plaid can be used to make blankets, bed covers, and other clothing materials.
