Ibuprofen is a generic name for an NSAID, and Tylenol is a brand name of acetaminophen, which is a generic name for an analgesic and antipyretic. Tylenol cannot decrease inflammation. Ibuprofen, on the other hand, does have the ability to reduce pain and inflammation. Ibuprofen is longer-lasting in its effects than Tylenol. Ibuprofen acts better and quicker in decreasing the core body’s temperature. Ibuprofen causes more side effects than Tylenol.
It must be taken with food or after meals to reduce gastric lining irritation. Tylenol is milder on the stomach, and it can even be taken without eating a meal. Tylenol, on the other hand, can cause severe damage to the liver.
