What is the difference between Spain and Catalonia?

Spain is a country in Europe, and that makes it a sovereign state. It has a total area of 504,782 km² and is usually regarded as the fourth largest country in Europe. Catalonia, on the other hand, is an autonomous community in Spain. It is located between the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean coast, specifically in the northeastern part of the Iberian Peninsula.

It also has a total area of 32,114 km2. While the official language of Spain is Spanish, the various autonomous communities in Spain also use different languages. With that said, the official languages of Catalonia are Occitan, Spanish, and Catalan. The capital city of Catalonia is Barcelona, while the capital city of Spain is Madrid.

In terms of the architectural designs and structures of some constructions in the two capital cities, i.e., Madrid and Barcelona, the former has more modern buildings and constructions than the latter. The popular dishes of the Catalans are Butifarra, fideua, while the popular dishes of the Spaniards are paella, chorizo sausages, etc.

Spain is a country in which Catalonia is in. Spain is its own independent entity, while Catalonia is not independent. They filed for their independence in 2017, but the Spain Senate denied their request. Though Catalonia is in Spain, there are many differences between them.

One difference between them is in regards to the language they speak. Catalonia speaks Catalan. This is unique to their province, but the people of Catalonia can also speak Spanish. Another difference between them is in regards to their style. Other areas of Spain is more modern, while Catalonia is more traditional to its culture.

Spain has fifty provinces, and one of them is Catalonia, and the municipality of Barcelona is its capital. Catalonia is an autonomous community, and it has its own distinct culture, language, and social activities. Catalonians speak a language that is not traditional Spanish. They speak Catalan, and most of the people in this province are bilingual, so they also speak Spanish. During governmental proceedings, Catalan is spoken to reinforce their independence; however, if you would visit this area, you would be able to discern the two different languages. Madrid is the capital of Spain, where architecture and culture are quite different.

Madrid has a more modern style as opposed to Catalonia's more traditional flair. In Spain, there is an overall notion that it is the struggle for power that keeps them alive, kicking, and fighting. Bullfighting is their most popular pastime. In Catalonia, it is the importance of teamwork, which keeps them thriving, which is evident through the human building of castles. Catalonians are very hard workers, while the Spaniards are thrill and entertainment seekers. In Spain, the food is also much different from Catalonia. Spain and Madrid are known for paella and chorizo sausage, whereas Catalonian food is influenced by French cuisine, and because it is near the ocean, they pair meat and seafood together. Whichever area you choose to visit, there will be many beautiful and exciting things to experience.
