What is the difference between Muffler and Exhaust?

You may have heard about the muffler and the exhaust but you are not exactly sure if they are similar or different from each other. The muffler is known to be the gadget that makes sure that the noise coming from the exhaust will be greatly reduced. In Britain, the muffler is also called the silencer because of its purpose.

The exhaust, based on its name, will be in charge of removing the gases that may come out of the cylinder so that it will flow down the pipe instead. These two have different purposes but both are needed by various vehicles to ensure that they will work properly.

Even car enthusiasts get confused with the difference between a muffler and an exhaust as many believe they mean the same thing, but they are not. A muffler is used to reduce the sound of a car’s engine. The length of a muffler aids in how quiet (or noisy) the sound will be produced.

The exhaust, on the other hand, is used to keep the burnt gas or exhaust away from the motor engine. Exhausts are usually located under the rear bumper because it should be placed away from the vehicle driver or user to carry out the toxic gases from the engine without harming the person’s health.
