SFP+ module and XFP module are both working at 10G data rate but have different specification and power. XFP was released in 2002 that works as a pluggable transceiver and is used with a fiber optic cable to connect to a high-speed network. It was updated in 2005 with a few minor updates.

It can operate at a wavelength of 850 nm, 1310 nm, or 1550 nm. SFP+, on the other hand, was released in 2006 and the updated version on 2009. SPF+ module can support data up to 16 Gbit/s. In terms of compliance, the XFP has a higher rate than the SPF+ with its 10Gbit/s compared to the 8 Gbit/s of the latter. XFP ports only accept XFP transceivers while SFP+ can have a connection to an SFP transceiver.
