Have you ever wondered why there are some twins that do not look the same? Some twins are even of different genders. This is because they are fraternal twins. This means that they come from two separate fertilized eggs. They develop two different amniotic sacs and so much more. Identical twins, on the other hand, come from just one fertilized egg. They share the same placenta and they are expected to look similar to each other.
Their genetic code is more likely to be more similar to each other as compared to fraternal twins. Take note that only 1/3 of the twins in the world are known to be truly identical. It is more likely for twins to become fraternal rather than identical.
Some people are confused with the differences between fraternal and identical twins. Fraternal twins are known not to have the same DNA. Some twins become fraternal when two separate sperms fertilize two different eggs. Identical twins are known to come from the same egg that is fed by one sperm.
This explains why there are identical twins who look very similar to each other. They share almost the same DNA, although they still have some slight differences that will set them apart from each other. It should also be remembered that there are no two people who have the same fingerprints even if they are identical twins.
