First of all, AICD means Automatic or Artificial Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator. This and peacemakers are electronic devices which are used to keep watch over the heart. They can be of help to lengthen the life of someone with heart ailment such as abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias), and irregular heart rate (bradycardia or tachy). Peacemakers are devices that use the battery to power a generator, it gives signals to the patient's heart through actual wires that are literally run from the device to the heart.

These signals promote better timing for a heartbeat because they are electrical in nature. On the other hand, more than the peacemakers, Automatic or Artificial Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (AICD) is more sophisticated a device than peacemakers. AICDs send defibrillator shocks "signal" for the abnormal rhythm of the heart. AICDs can perform the function of peacemakers, while peacemakers can't perform the function of AICDs. This makes AICDs more expensive than peacemakers.
