In math, you may hear the terms “power” and “exponent.” These are two terms used to mean the same thing in an equation. The little number that appears slightly above and to the right of the number at the end of the number is called the exponent or power. They mean the same thing, but there are often when they are used differently. Exponent is the official term for this type of number in the equation.
However, when someone reads the equation aloud, they will most likely not use the word “exponent.” Instead, they will say “power” when they learned that number. It would not be considered wrong to say “exponent,” but it would sound strange. Therefore, the part of speech of each word is also different.
