Many cars in the United States have automatic transmissions. This means that the transmission or car will automatically shift gears. The driver does not have to do that. However, in vehicles with manual transmissions, the driver must press the clutch that is near the gas and brake pedals and then shifts gear into a new gear. It is more difficult to drive a car with a manual transmission than one with an automatic transmission.
If your car is on an incline and especially one that is a steep incline, then it is best to drive a car with an automatic transmission. It is less likely to roll back when you take your foot off of the brake. However, a car with a manual transmission will roll back on a steep incline once you take your foot off the brake.
