This was the time when the American colonies finally severed their ties with Great Britain. This explains why July 4 is being celebrated by Americans wholeheartedly.
This is a day full of celebration complete with a lot of food, alcohol, and fireworks display at night. There are even some Americans who say that this might be their favorite holiday of all the available holidays. It is not a surprise, especially since a lot of Americans are patriotic.
The United States gained its freedom on July 4, 1776. This was the day the “Declaration of Independence” was officially adopted by the Continental Congress. However, the official signing ceremony did not take place until August 2 of the same year. Before this time, the United States was not recognized as a country.
The states were identified as individual colonies of the British Empire as they were controlled by the King and Parliament of the Great Britain. The 13 colonies that were at war with Great Britain were now recognised as independent sovereign states.
