SDS Plus and SDS Max are drill bits used in rotary hammers or "roto hammers." These hammers are hammer drills with powerful horsepower to drill into almost anything. There are some critical differences between the drill bits. SDS max is more substantial and more significant.
It is not compatible or interchangeable with a drill bit. SDS Plus has four grooves, while SDS Max only has three slots with locking segments. The SDS was perfected and produced by the German Company Bosch, for hammer drills in 1975. SDS Max is the drill bit for larger hole diameter compared to the SDS and SDS Plus. It has chisels which are perfect for heavy duty work.
