The United States of America flag has 50 pointed stars. Along with the stars, the American flag has 13 horizontal red stripes alternating with white. The white stars are located in the blue rectangle on the upper left of the American flag. The 50 stars represent the 50 states of the United States of America. In the 1950s, Alaska and Hawaii were being considered if they can stand alone as a state, so many designs were submitted to President Dwight Eisenhower with 49-star versions along with 50-star design proposals.
Robert G. Heft, a seventeen-year-old student, made a U.S. flag with the 50 stars as a school project. He only received a grade of B- but it was the one that got accepted by the Congress.
